The Mazurka is a traditional dance from Mazoria, an old Kingdom of Poland that
Chopin was native to. He has made great use of the folk music of this region
and they are characterised by subtle changes in the unusual rhythm varied
melodic colour and demonstrate his vast range of compositional ability.
Ranging from brief and vigorous dances to deep and complex extended works,
they are each very individual, with a unique character. Either slow or fast,
the dance was generally performed by a large company in the manner of a
village or folk dance.
This fantastic edition contains 51 of Chopin’s fantastic_Mazurkas_, set here
for piano solo.
